In 1953, President Eisenhower received a proposal from Dorothy Sutherland about the proclamation of the Nurse Day. Unfortunately, it was never made. Later in 1954, the nurse communities observe the National Nurse Week in October. Bolton sponsored a special bill for Nurse Week. In 1955, a new bill regarding the National Nurse Week was also introduced. Unfortunately, the US Government did not take any action. Even, in 1972, a new resolution regarding ‘National Registered Nurse Day’ was offered. Then, it was in 1974, when the ICN or the International Council of Nurses proclaimed that 12th May would be the International Nurse Day. In 1982, a proclamation got signed with the help of President Ronald Reagan. It was proclaiming that 6th May would be the ‘National Recognition Day for Nurses’. In 1997, the ANA Board of Directors chose 8th May as the ‘National Student Nurses Day.
